Campsite Notes is a personal camping journal app. We take your privacy seriously and want to be transparent about what data we collect and how we use it.

What Data We Store

When you use Campsite Notes, we store the following information:

  • Account Information: Your email address and password (securely hashed)
  • Trips: Trip names, dates, destinations, notes, ratings, and expenses you enter
  • Temporary Trip Drafts: Planning details entered without an account are stored privately for seven days. An essential browser cookie lets you return to the same draft in that browser; expired drafts are removed by scheduled cleanup. Separate conversion records retain creation, save-attempt, and claim milestones with campaign information, without trip text or account contact details. A protected, nonessential acquisition cookie lasts 30 days; advertising click identifiers in conversion records are cleared after 90 days. Trip inputs and guest content are masked for session recordings; private saved-trip pages are not recorded by Clarity.
  • Campsites: Campsite names, locations, notes, and ratings you save
  • Photos: Photos you upload to document your camping adventures
  • Calendar Events: Trip dates and reminders you create

How Photos Are Stored

Photos you upload are stored securely on our servers. We create smaller thumbnail versions for faster loading. Your photos are private and only visible to you when logged into your account. We do not share, sell, or use your photos for any purpose other than displaying them back to you.

Analytics

To understand engagement and improve Campsite Notes, we store your account registration date, latest successful sign-in, latest authenticated visit, and latest meaningful activity time. We recognize a new visit after 30 minutes of inactivity and throttle last-seen updates. Meaningful activity includes opening campsite, trip, or story pages and using content features. This first-party tracking does not store page URLs, search terms, IP addresses, device identifiers, mouse movements, or scrolling. Account-level engagement information is visible only to authorized administrators.

Per-account daily engagement records are retained for up to 90 days, with daily cleanup. Latest account timestamps remain while your account exists. Deleting your account removes these account-linked engagement records. Non-identifying daily totals are retained for historical trends. No engagement history is inferred for periods before tracking began.

Deleting Your Data

You own your data. If you want to delete your account and all associated data (trips, campsites, photos, and notes), you can do so from your Account Settings page, or contact us and we'll help you out.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Secure password hashing
  • Rate limiting to prevent abuse

Campground discovery

Discovery search text is shared with Google and, when configured, our AI provider to interpret your preferences. Avoid personal or sensitive information. Google processes data under Google Privacy Policy. When you choose Save, your trip input and place IDs are carried through sign-in in an encrypted, HTTP-only cookie that expires after 30 minutes. A normal Discover visit starts fresh and clears the pending save. Searches and selections are not restored from browser storage. Photos, ratings and other Google content are not stored in saved trips. We record event counts without search text.
